Bacteriological Monitoring and Reporting Requirements Not Met for Rand
Communities Water District during 1st Quarter of 2023

Our Water System recently violated a drinking water standard. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we did to correct the situation.

We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not our drinking water meets health standards. During the 1st quarter of 2023, we did not meet all monitoring requirements for coliform bacteria and therefore cannot be sure of the quality of our drinking water during that time. We were required to collect one raw water bacteriological sample from each of our Prather Wells 01 and 02 during the 1st quarter of 2023 and failed to do so.

What should I do?

  • You do not need need to boil your water or take other corrective actions.
  • The table below lists the contaminant we did not properly test for during the first quarter of 2023, how many samples we are required to take and how often, how many samples we took, when samples should have been taken, and the date on which follow-up samples were (or will be) taken.

What happened? What is being done?

Failure to collect the required raw water bacteriological sample from Prather Wells 01 and 02 during the 1st quarter of 2023 was due to our oversight. On April 11, 2023, we collected one raw water bacteriological sample from each of Prather Wells 01 and 02 and the results were negative for total coliform bacteria.

We have taken steps to ensure that such types of monitoring violations do not happen again. We will make sure to collect a raw water bacteriological sample from Prather Wells 01 and 02 during the 3rd quarter of 2023 and quarterly afterwards and report the results to the State Water Board, Division of Drinking Water by the 10thday of the following month.
